HISTORY

The visual identity of the Indonesian Center for Cognitive Load Research (ICCLR) has evolved alongside the development of the center itself. As ICCLR grew from a newly established research initiative into an internationally connected center of excellence, its logo also underwent refinement to better reflect its mission, values, and global engagement in the field of learning sciences.

The First Logo (2022–2025)

From 2022 to 2025, ICCLR used its original logo as its primary visual identity. The logo featured a light bulb with a brain inside, symbolizing ideas, cognition, and the scientific exploration of how people learn. This imagery represented ICCLR’s focus on studying the mechanisms of human thinking, particularly within the framework of Cognitive Load Theory and learning psychology.

The circular frame surrounding the symbol represented continuity, unity, and the ongoing process of scientific discovery. The combination of red, white, and black colors emphasized energy, clarity, and determination—values that characterized ICCLR’s early years as it established its research agenda, built academic collaborations, and began disseminating research findings both nationally and internationally.

During this period, the logo accompanied ICCLR in many of its foundational activities, including the development of research networks, academic publications, and scholarly discussions on effective instructional design and cognitive load in education.

Transition Toward a New Identity

As ICCLR continued to grow and strengthen its position as a research center with international collaborations, the need emerged for a visual identity that more explicitly represented scientific inquiry, collaboration, and knowledge dissemination. The redesign was intended not only to modernize the appearance of the logo but also to reflect ICCLR’s expanding role within the global research community.

The Current Logo (2026–Present)

Starting in 2026, ICCLR introduced its new logo as part of a renewed visual identity. The updated design reflects the core values of scientific inquiry, international collaboration, and knowledge dissemination that define the center’s activities today.

A key element of the redesign is the transformation of the first letter “C” in the acronym into a magnifying glass. This symbol represents the spirit of research and inquiry, highlighting ICCLR’s commitment to critical investigation, deep analysis, and the continuous search for scientific evidence in the field of learning psychology and cognitive load research.

The second letter “C” incorporates a handshake motif, representing synergy and connection. This visual element reflects the collaborative nature of ICCLR’s work, emphasizing partnerships among researchers across institutions and countries. It symbolizes the strong academic networks developed through collaborations with international partners, reinforcing ICCLR’s role as a global research community.
